I think that some of the rules and rights in intellectual freedom are reasonable, but most need some limitations. The rule about reading what you want to read is fair unless you are young and are trying to read something inappropriate for your age. People have the right to hear what they what they want to hear, but if you want to hear something like a secret and invade someone’s privacy against their will, you shouldn’t be able to do that. I think that you should definitely be allowed to think what you want to think because they are your thoughts in your mind. Maybe some things should stay in your mind, but that is your choice. Little kids shouldn’t be able to watch certain things because this world is full of inappropriate material on the internet, television, and maybe in real life. I agree with what the 1st Amendment has to say because freedom of speech, the press, religion, and assembly makes America a free country, and without that, not a lot of immigrants would live in America because it would seem the same as the countries they came from.
Intellectual Freedom to me is basic human freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom to wear what you want to wear, and be who you want to be. Don’t let anyone to tell you other then that. Some of the rules are responsibility, and respect for yourself and others around you. Other might have limitations, like people that commit a crime or are involved in a crime. Everyone to me has rights, to speak what they feel. Everyone has a voice, and everyone has an opinion. Say what you feel is freedom to me. For people to choose what other people read or watch is wrong to me. I mean of course you’re not going to let toddlers watch and listen to things about sex, drugs, and alcohol. But kids that are teenagers or adults should be able to decide for them selves what they want to hear, watch, and read. Nobody knows what they want except for them, and for someone to make decisions for them is wrong to me because its not their position to decide, especially when they are people that aren’t involved with that group of kids so they don’t know what they feel. Freedom is respected but you have to be willing to do the curtain things to be able to get freedom.
I think intellectual freedom should be a little more strict because there are many people who hear/see things different and people get offended easy and if we have tighter laws on this stuff it would cut down on the offence on other people because we many practice a religion that offends another religion and that could get some people off. So its not right that people can hurt others by doing something they feel is right. But we should have some freedom just not as much as we do now, so we should make it so others around us don’t get hurt in the process of us doing whatever it is we feel is right to do. But if we are in our own homes I feel it is right to express yourself however you would like because it’s your home not someone else’s so they should be able to tell you how to live in your own home. That’s not right. But we should be able to express yourself by house you dress or how you do your make-up/hair should be your own choice. But when you’re in public I think its okay to show whatever your feel is right as long as it’s not offending anyone else. So as long as people aren’t getting hurt you can believe whatever you want.
I think the intellectual freedom should be a little stricter because if you are around someone that doesn’t want to hear or see something that you are saying or have on, they shouldn’t have the right to be doing that around them. It might be inappropriate and it could insult someone. So it’s not very nice. But people should still have some right to do what they believe is right, without harming or hurting anyone’s feelings. You also shouldn’t really do it in public; it could start a big fight. But you should do be able to do whatever it is at your house like practicing a religion. You shouldn’t do it in public because it could offend other religions. Also if you are wearing something that might be offending someone you should just take it off. But if it’s not bothering anyone, then you have the right to keep it on. So everyone’s rights should be limited. No ones feelings should get hurt but you should also have some rights to do what you believe is right.
