I think that some of the rules and rights in intellectual freedom are reasonable, but most need some limitations. The rule about reading what you want to read is fair unless you are young and are trying to read something inappropriate for your age. People have the right to hear what they what they want to hear, but if you want to hear something like a secret and invade someone’s privacy against their will, you shouldn’t be able to do that. I think that you should definitely be allowed to think what you want to think because they are your thoughts in your mind. Maybe some things should stay in your mind, but that is your choice. Little kids shouldn’t be able to watch certain things because this world is full of inappropriate material on the internet, television, and maybe in real life. I agree with what the 1st Amendment has to say because freedom of speech, the press, religion, and assembly makes America a free country, and without that, not a lot of immigrants would live in America because it would seem the same as the countries they came from.
Intellectual Freedom to me is basic human freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom to wear what you want to wear, and be who you want to be. Don’t let anyone to tell you other then that. Some of the rules are responsibility, and respect for yourself and others around you. Other might have limitations, like people that commit a crime or are involved in a crime. Everyone to me has rights, to speak what they feel. Everyone has a voice, and everyone has an opinion. Say what you feel is freedom to me. For people to choose what other people read or watch is wrong to me. I mean of course you’re not going to let toddlers watch and listen to things about sex, drugs, and alcohol. But kids that are teenagers or adults should be able to decide for them selves what they want to hear, watch, and read. Nobody knows what they want except for them, and for someone to make decisions for them is wrong to me because its not their position to decide, especially when they are people that aren’t involved with that group of kids so they don’t know what they feel. Freedom is respected but you have to be willing to do the curtain things to be able to get freedom.
I think intellectual freedom should be a little more strict because there are many people who hear/see things different and people get offended easy and if we have tighter laws on this stuff it would cut down on the offence on other people because we many practice a religion that offends another religion and that could get some people off. So its not right that people can hurt others by doing something they feel is right. But we should have some freedom just not as much as we do now, so we should make it so others around us don’t get hurt in the process of us doing whatever it is we feel is right to do. But if we are in our own homes I feel it is right to express yourself however you would like because it’s your home not someone else’s so they should be able to tell you how to live in your own home. That’s not right. But we should be able to express yourself by house you dress or how you do your make-up/hair should be your own choice. But when you’re in public I think its okay to show whatever your feel is right as long as it’s not offending anyone else. So as long as people aren’t getting hurt you can believe whatever you want.
I think the intellectual freedom should be a little stricter because if you are around someone that doesn’t want to hear or see something that you are saying or have on, they shouldn’t have the right to be doing that around them. It might be inappropriate and it could insult someone. So it’s not very nice. But people should still have some right to do what they believe is right, without harming or hurting anyone’s feelings. You also shouldn’t really do it in public; it could start a big fight. But you should do be able to do whatever it is at your house like practicing a religion. You shouldn’t do it in public because it could offend other religions. Also if you are wearing something that might be offending someone you should just take it off. But if it’s not bothering anyone, then you have the right to keep it on. So everyone’s rights should be limited. No ones feelings should get hurt but you should also have some rights to do what you believe is right.

Imagine a nation without intellectual freedom. It would be very… boring. We wouldn’t have a wide range of information on current and past events. We wouldn’t be as knowledgeable today. Intellectual Freedom, if you don’t know, is human rights. For example, listening to what music you want to hear, seeing the movies you want to see, and reading on what you want to read. I think that people may be able to do all of this, but also express, but not enforce, their opinions. It’s not right to say to someone, “No, no, no you can’t read this because I don’t like it.” That would be enforcing your opinion, but instead say, “I really don’t like that book, but I’m not stopping you from reading this. Without this right, there would be barely and books, songs, movies, and TV shows. This is a necessary right that we all have, but enforcing our opinions is not part of this right. Remember with great power, comes great responsibility.
Is having the right to speak how you feel, do what you feel as long as it doesn’t break any laws. This is something you would learn in history like the first amendment, having the right of speech, and to say what you feel. And the Constitution says that it’s our decision what we decide to do. If you feel that something’s wrong you have the right to stand up what you believe in, and it will be okay as long as you follow the laws we have in our country. It’s like protesting, there could be something going on in your city that you make not like that much you as an American citizen can stand up and say what you feel. Everyone has this right, whether you’re a different race, age, or have a different background. For example If something in your school was changed like rule saying “you can’t wear black sweatshirts to school” because what so ever reason, if that bothered you, you could have your friends and anyone else in your school sign a petition saying that we should be allowed to wear them.
I think Intellectual freedom is a good thing because we all need our own rights and intellectual freedom lets us have that. In the reading that was passed out it talks about how we should have the rights to read what we want, “watch what we want”, and hear all different points of view. I think that it’s unrealistic and rude to take a book away just because there is something in it that you don’t agree with, because chances are there is someone else out there loves it. Same goes for watching T.V. would if someone tried to kick your favorite show of the air, wouldn’t that make you mad? So why on earth would you try to kick something off that someone else loves. If you don’t like it you don’t have to watch it. And with sharing different points of view, just like you’re able to show and tell your beliefs your neighbor should be able to say what they believe. Intellectual freedom is necessary for everyone to live how they desire and as long as that’s not harmful to others I think that that’s a pretty good thing.
Intellectual freedom, what is it? In my words, it is you having the right to say what you what and do what you do without breaking any laws. You may know this as the first amendment. The intellectual freedom consists of the freedom of speech, giving the right to protest for what you feel is right. It also consists of the freedom of the press, which is getting to post blogs or write in newspapers and magazines about what you feel. This may come in when you want something to happen, like you want to change a school rule, something in your community or even bigger, in the government. You can take something’s to far, like, if you have your opinion about one of the people running for president and they get voted. If you have a bad comment about them, keep it to yourself. In my opinion that is wrong, you should never bad mouth the president. That is intellectual freedom.
Look, the First Amendment has its limits. Examples: no shouting “Fire!” in a crowded theater, no racist, sexist, anti-Semitic, etc. comments. But some of take the First Amendment, and the whole dang Bill of Rights for that matter, for granted. Anyone remember John Adams and his Alien and Sedition Act (1799)? Andrew Jackson actually breaking checks-and-balances into a million pieces by sending Supreme Court-protected Natives into “Indian Territory” anyway? Anti-WW1 protesters jailed? Japanese-Americans tossed into concentration camps like Jews in Nazi Germany? Remember those events? Or Cold-War America installing puppet governments, blocking elections, and supporting DICTATORS just to keep another belief system out?
Basically, the Bill of Rights is seriously overrated. It’s lovely to have them, but our rights are useless if our government does not realize that we have them. And this “intellectual freedom” follows the same rule.
And the rule is this: Everyone has rights, but they are only good if our superiors recognize and uphold those rights.

I agree with the First Amendment because its says that they cant make a law against somebodys religion and thats true because you cant just judge someone because of their religion. I think that freedom of speech is fair because you are able to say what you think but you have to have something to back it up. But I don’t think it’s fair to control someone over their thoughts because they have the right to think that or even say it. So if somebody disagrees with something, its not right to just throw them in jail.
The First Amendment I agree with, With the Congress agrees not to make laws againsed people’s religions. I agree with this because I am religious and I believe that everyone should be able to have there own religion with out being scared of other people making fun of them or something. This is America and this is a free country that means we can believe in what we want and say what we believe without being arrested for it. I feel that, We all are the same and deserve to be treated the same. I don’t Believe that people should Tell us what we have to say and believe in.
I think the first amendment is mostly right. I think that freedom of speech is something that people should have because the right to say what they want without anyone telling them otherwise because people have their opinion and just because someone doesn’t agree with them it doesn’t mean the other person can’t say it. I think that freedom of religion is right to because you should be able to worship or do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t hurt society. I think freedom of the press is good to because if you don’t like it then don’t watch it. I think that freedom of assembly is ok too because they can gather and express what they feel and it doesn’t mean you have to stop them because how would you feel if that were you. Last but not least I think that the right to petition is a good policy as well because it is ok to want something, they can petition if it makes them feel good but it doesn’t mean it will happen.
The government has made a law saying that we the people of the United States of America have the freedom of speech and freedom of the press. The freedom of speech is us Americans being able to say what we think and what we want without getting into trouble with the law. I think freedom if speech is right to some extent. I think its right to be able to say most things that are on your mind, but some thing should just be left alone. For example, if someone says to you “you’re ugly”
For no reason except that they can, I think that that’s crossing the line a little bit. Freedom of the press is the right for the news people to get information and broadcast it, without getting the law involved. I think that’s fair, because we the people have the right to know what’s going on in the world.

I feel that the intellectual freedom is fair because we have the kind of freedom to speak how we want to speak and we can also do whatever we want to say and we can also say what we want to say to other people even if it is mean but it can not offend that person but so then that means that we can not say anything rude to another person because they might get offended because of what that person said to the other person.
I feel that the first amendment should put in a lot more examples in the reading. People should be allowed o do what they want to do around the world. The people might be taking this too far because they have to follow the first amendment but they do have to follow the first amendment because it is the law rule for people so that means that they do can not do what they want to do when they travel to a different country or state.
I feel the first amendment is not all that fair. I do not support all the first amendment, but parts I do. I feel people deserve to have their own thoughts on everything. I think people should be able to share their thoughts and feelings on whatever they want, but not hurt others with their words. When people are prosecuted wrongly, they should use this amendment to help them understand. Every person, no matter what they do or undergo, shall be able to have the right if using the first amendment when they feel they have been wrongly prosecuted.
What I think about Intellectual Freedom. First of all I think everyone should have there own opinion. But not against religion because that is what they practice and believe in. How would you feel if some one came into your house while you where praying and told you to stop because they stop it was wrong . Secondly I think people should have there own voice. This means that they can say anything that you want but at the same time have to think about what they are saying and also be respectful. And thirdly I think people should have there intellectual freedom for when they are wearing clothes this means that if someone is wearing a George bush shirt and someone comes up to them and tells them to take it off because the do not like him. How would you like it if someone came to you or someone you loved and told them to take there shirt or hat off JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR OWN OPINION. But people should also be respectful of what they wear. As you can see all three of these reasons tie into intellectual freedom and what I think about it.
The first amendment I think is to tell us that we also have restrictions and privileges to deal with as Americans and respect. The intellectual freedom thing I think means that we have our freedoms and rights. If we don’t abide by those rules than we shouldn’t have the rights as promised in the above statement. I agree with the intellectual freedom thing as long as the rights to have our own opinion. I agree to the 1st amendment also as long as the privileges and the responsibilities are protected by the up most authorities to be judged fairly.
